PENANG’s
Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society’s dream to have its third dialysis centre in the
state is expected to materialise soon.
The
Fo Yi Medicare Centre will be located in Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Batu
Maung.
The
five-storey building will be built on a 0.2ha plot, consisting of a two-storey
car park while the other three floors are for medical and other purposes.
Chairman
Ooi Beng Soon said besides kidney patients, the centre, which is believed to be
the sole one in Batu Maung, would cater to stroke patients as well.
“The
building costs RM5mil but so far we’ve only managed to collect about RM4mil.
“This
centre will have 48 dialysis machines compared to just 15 machines each at our
other two centres in Jalan Munshi Abdullah and Jalan Hamilton,” he said at the
groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday.
He
stressed that Fo Yi’s dialysis centres serve everyone irrespective of races or
religion.
Chief
Minister Lim Guan Eng, who was present at the event, lauded the society’s move
in helping the public while encouraging other religious organisations to do the
same.
“This
centre will be good for the kidney patients especially those who are staying at
this area,” he said, Fo
Yi Medicare Centre is expected to be opened in 2015. Those interested in
donating, can contact 04-2825367 or 04-2825525.
